What-lah is this all about? (Strictly Malaysian)

WHEN you speak to a Malaysian you will notice the suffix "lah" frequently occurs in conversation. What's all this, then?
"Lah" is a suffix in Bahasa Malaysia that is meant to add emphasis to a word or phrase. "Just do it" for example, would roughly translate into "Buat sahaja" but more forcefulness would be obtained by adding the suffix, e.g. "Buatlah sahaja".

If someone knocks at the door and you invite them in, the polite way to say that would be "Sila masuk", or "please come in". If, however, you've said it once and the person is still knocking, you just say "Masuklah" for emphasis and to tell the blur case (see our upcoming lexicon of Malaysian slang) that you heard him in the first place. There are thousands of other examples but we hope you get the drift.

Anyway, the suffix has been absorbed into English in the local vernacular, more commonly in the peninsula than over in Sabah and Sarawak, and is used millions of times a day throughout the country - sometimes purposefully, sometimes for no reason at all.

When you fail to show up for work on time and the boss chews you out, a typical defence might be "Sorry boss, tired-lah."

If someone is getting a little too uptight about something, the appropriate caution to him would be "relax-lah" or "steady-lah", which urges the person to chill out, calm down, stay frosty, cool off.
See? Everybody needs slang.

While purists continue to mourn the so-called "dilution" of spoken English with such colloquialisms, it is part and parcel of Malaysian life and nothing seems able to dislodge it. Stuck-lah!

Some of the many applications of "lah"
Coaxing
Come on-lah; don't be like that-lah; please-lah

Forceful
Shut up-lah; get out-lah; go to hell-lah

Apologetic
Sorry-lah

Fed up
Enough-lah
Really fed up
****-lah

Definite
Of course-lah; sure-lah

Generous
Take some more-lah

Unyielding
Cannot-lah

Dumbfounded
What-lah

Reluctant
Dowan-lah! (A contraction of "don't want-lah")

Suggestive
Try-lah

Agreeable
Okay-lah

Disagreeable
Your head-lah

Bank Account of Life

This is AWESOME....something we should all remember.

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably coifed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. As he manoeuvred his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window.

"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged. It's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it."
"It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do."

"Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away, just for this time in my life."
"Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in."
"So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories! Thank you for your part in filling my memory bank. I am still depositing."
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

GSC Pavilion is Giving Away Free Tickets!

GOOD NEWS!!! Attention to all movie lovers. Please block your calender from 24th to 27th November 2007 and grab your free movie coupon from GSC ASAP!

I've spent my two free days few years ago with the same candies when they are about to open at Berjaya Time Square. Its really fun when you can feel, test and smell the pre-launching Movie Hall. But it was past and I never been there to watch any movies now. Why not? Because I have many choices around me, GSC and TGV at One Utama, Cathay Cineplax at Cineleisure, GSC at Jusco Kepong or at TGV if i went to Sunway Pyramid and GSC Mid Valley. The parking fees also quite reasonable.

Last Sunday nite, I went to Pavillion for a fresh overview of new opened classy Shopping Mall in KL. Yeah, it is a great looking high class Mall I bet you! The first place I was looking of course the GSC itself. But on that day, the renovation work still in progress and I can't have my glance of view to the new GSC. If I'm not wrong, the GSC situated at Level 5 and 6 of the Pavillion.

I just can't wait to be there and have my candies again. However, hopefully my Saturday and Sunday will be not flew away just like that because maybe there is a renovation in my house and need someone to put eye on it. Hmm...

One more thing. Just a reminder while you enjoying your movies, the parking fees :)

1st hour = RM3
Additional hour = RM1

If you want to get 2 hours free parking, just spend RM100 in a receipt. So, just calculate and decide yourself!

You should smile :)

Best Joke Award winner in UK

This is a "BEST JOKE" award winner in UK
One Chinese person walks into a bar in America late one night and he saw Steven Spielberg. As he was a great fan of his movies, he rushes over to him, and asks for his autograph.
Instead, Spielberg gives him a slap and says "You Chinese people bombed our Pearl Harbor, get out of here."

The astonished Chinese man replied "It was not the Chinese who bombed your Pearl Harbor , it was the Japanese".

"Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, you're all the same," replied Spielberg.
In return, the Chinese gives Spielberg a slap and says "You sank the Titanic; my forefathers were on that ship."

Shocked, Spielberg replies "It was the iceberg that sank the ship, not me."

The Chinese replies, "Iceberg, Spielberg, Carlsberg, you're all the same."

This particular joke won an award for the best joke in a competition in Britain .

Drinking Water On Empty Stomach

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven a its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases

METHOD OF TREATMENT

1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water.

2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minutes.

3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.

4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours.

5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.

6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:

1. High Blood Pressure - 30 days

2. Gastric - 10 days

3. Diabetes - 30 days

4. Constipation - 10 days

5. Cancer - 180 days

6. TB - 90 days

7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.

It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.

Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.

This makes sense .... the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.

It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks: Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.

Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.

You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.

Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.

60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.

Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

What shall I do with my money?

A picture taken at Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Really miss the nice and peaceful white soft beach!

Everyday I keep thinking to do something that can generate more money. And as of now, I still can't decide although there is huge opportunity for me to invest in a new fund that will be launched by Public Mutual, Public China Ittikal Fund. However, my thought of buying a cheap low cost apartment still in a deep consideration as it will also can generate me more money if I can rent it to somebody. I've found few houses in http:www.auctions.com.my that meets my financial goals. I really enjoy myself :) if i can consider to take both opportunity but with my financial limits, I can only consider for one! So sad... :(

My current two fund in Public Mutual is serving me so well and really kick off ASB aside hehehe. As of now, for the 1st fund, I'm investing in Public Asia Ittikal Fund and for the second, the hottest fund in the market that i use to invest, Public Ittikal Fund. The performance of this two fund and the progressive economy of China and its capability to strive better really can't make me just sitting and watching. I need to do something but how? House or Unit Trust? Arghhhh...!!! Still can't decide! Help me!!!!

Soon, weather updates via SMS

Soon, weather updates via SMS
Source ~
The Star
June 22, Weather updates and flood information will bejust an SMS (short messaging service) away once the content development for them is completed.

Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha said the content development for the weather forecast was now in the tendering process.

"We are putting in place the content which will later be accessed by the telcos who can send it out via SMS. When this is completed, subscribers need only dial a number for the latest weather forecast, for a fee," he told reporters after launching a two-day seminar on socio-economic impact of extreme weather and climate change.

Kong said the electronic media such as RTM had already started providing daily weather forecasts through the Selamat Pagi Malaysia and Hello on 2 shows.

On accurate weather forecasts, Kong said it was not possible to pinpoint the exact location where floods would hit although the Meteorological Department could forecast thunderstorm at wider areas.

Apit...Apit... (18sx)

Di sebuah rumah setinggan tinggallah sebuah keluarga dengan seorang anak lelaki, si Apit.

Pada suatu malam si Papa nak menunaikan
tanggungjawap kepada si Mama.
"Sayang, abang nak lagi, Yang". Pelawa siPapa disertai nafas ghairah.

"Ya bang... tengok dulu si Apit, dah tidur ke belum?"
Jawab siMama penuh kerinduan.

Mendapat lampu hijau, si Papa terus teriak.
"Pit... dah tidur kau pit?."
"belum Papa... tengah baca buku."
"Sudah...esok saja, dah malam, tidur!!!!"
Perintah siPapa debfab tegas

Kira kira 10 minit kemudian, si Papa teriak lagi.
"Pit.... dah tidur kau Pit?
"Belum...."
Si Papa mengemaskan ikatan kain pelikat lalu keluar memarahi dan memukul si Apit.

"Disuruh tidur....tidurlah!!!" sehingga kening siApit benjol.

Esoknya di sekolah si Apit ditanya oleh gurunya, tentang benjol di keningnya. Berceritalah si Apit dari awal sampai dia dipukul papanya. Lalu gurunya pun mengajar Apit.
"Malam nanti..kalau ditanya lagi,kamu diam saja....ya."
"Ya....cikgu". jawab si Apit.

Malam tu, dia terdengar Papanya bersembang dengan Mamanya.
"Sayang, apa kata kita ke syurga lagi."
"Ya bang.....tengok dulu si Apit, dah tidur ke belum"
"Pit.....dah tidur kau Pit?.Si Apit teringat pesanan gurunya, maka dia
diam saja, daripada kena benjol lagi, dia pura-pura tidur.

"Apit....dah tidur kau Pit?" ulang Papanya.

Apit tetap diam.

"Ya Bang .. kita keluar sama-sama", dia dengar suara Mamanya menjawab.

Dengan segera si Apit bangkit dan berteriak sekuat hati;
"Apit nak ikutt.. Apit nak ikuuttt"

Esoknya....Apit BENJOL lagi ........

Bila dahaga, yang susukan aku.. ibu
Bila lapar, yang suapkan aku..ibu
Bila keseorangan, yang sentiasa di sampingku.. ibu
Kata ibu, perkataan pertama yang aku sebut.. Ma!
Bila bangun tidur, aku cari.. ibu
Bila nangis, orang pertama yang datang ..ibu
Bila nak bermanja.. aku dekati ibu
Bila nak bergesel… aku duduk sebelah ibu
Bila sedih, yang boleh memujukku hanya ibu
Bila nakal, yang memarahi aku …ibu
Bila merajuk… yang memujukku cuma..ibu
Bila melakukan kesalahan… yang paling cepat marah..ibu
Bila takut… yang tenangkan aku .. ibu
Bila nak peluk… yang aku suka peluk..ibu

Aku selalu teringatkan ..Ibu
Bila sedih, aku mesti talipon… Ibu
Bila seronok… orang pertama aku nak beritahu…Ibu
Bila bengang.. aku suka luah pada ..Ibu
Bila takut, aku selalu panggil.. "ibuuuuuuuuuuuuu!"
Bila sakit, orang paling risau adalah ..Ibu
Bila nak exam, orang paling sibuk juga Ibu
Bila merajuk, yang datang pujuk aku juga.. Ibu
Bila buat hal, yang marah aku dulu..Ibu
Bila ada masalah, yang paling risau.. Ibu
Yang masih peluk dan cium aku sampai hari ni.. Ibu
Yang selalu masak makanan kegemaranku.. Ibu
Yang selalu simpan dan kemaskan barang-barang aku, Ibu
Yang selalu berleter kat aku.. Ibu
Yang selalu puji aku.. Ibu
Yang selalu nasihat aku.. Ibu
Bila nak kahwin..
Orang pertama aku tunjuk dan rujuk… Ibu

Aku ada pasangan hidup sendiri
Bila seronok… aku cari pasanganku
Bila sedih… aku cari Ibu
Bila berjaya… aku ceritakan pada pasanganku
Bila gagal… aku ceritakan pada Ibu
Bila bahagia, aku peluk erat pasanganku
Bila berduka, aku peluk erat Ibuku
Bila nak bercuti… aku bawa pasanganku
Bila sibuk… aku hantar anak ke rumah Ibu
Bila sambut valentine.. Aku hadiahi bunga pada pasanganku
Bila sambut hari ibu…
aku cuma dapat ucapkan Selamat Hari Ibu
Selalu ….. aku ingat pasanganku
Selalu… Ibu ingat kat aku
Bila..bila… aku akan talipon pasanganku
Entah bila.. …aku nak talipon Ibu
Selalu …aku belikan hadiah untuk pasanganku
Entah bila... aku nak belikan hadiah untuk Ibuku

Renungkan:

"Kalau kau sudah habis belajar dan berkerja... bolehkah kau kirim wang untuk Ibu? Ibu bukan nak banyak... lima puluh ringgit sebulan puncukuplah". Berderai air mata aku. Hari ini kalau Ibu mahu lima ratus sebulan pun aku mampu. Aku boleh kirimkan. Tapi Ibu sudah tiada. Aku tidak berkesempatan lagi.. bukan lima puluh ringgit.. lima puluh sen pun tidak sempat aku kirimkan! Hanya yang termampu Alfatihah, alfatihah, alfatihah.

I'M THANKFUL U'RE MY FRIEND!

Five (5) lessons to make you think about the way we treat people....

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.
During my second month of college, our professor

gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:
"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the

cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question

blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.
"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers,

you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say "hello."
I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her

name was Dorothy.
2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an elderly African-American

woman was standing on the side of an Alabamahighway
trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
put her into a taxicab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his

address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attached..
It read:

"Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away... God
bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others."
Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,

a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
"How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked.

"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled is hand out of his pocket and

studied the coins in it.
"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired.

By now more people were waiting for a table and the

waitress was growing impatient.
"Thirty-five cents," she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins.

"I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on

the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice

cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress

came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the

table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,

were two nickels and five pennies..
You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had

to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4. Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a

roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of

vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the s ide of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts...

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a

hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.
I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a

deep breath and saying, "Yes I'll do it if it will
save her." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in
bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did,
seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his
face grew pale and his smile faded.
He looked up at the doctor and asked with a

trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away".
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the

doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her.

"Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody's watching."
